Today, we held our Spirituality Day. The theme of the day was recognising and celebrating our gifts and talents. Parishioners from St Joseph's joined us on the day and helped to run activities.
Each class had a session in the hall where they listened to a scripture story about the treasure in the field and heard how this linked to their treasures, their god-given gifts and talents. We are all treasures in the eyes of God as he made us and each one of us is unique.
The children then took part in three activities:
Playdough People - Using lavender playdough, the children created an image of themselves, recognising how God has formed each one of them and the gifts and talents that they have.
Image of their talent - The children drew a picture of their gift or talent, thinking beyond school and recorded on their illustration what their gift or talent was. Together, these formed a larger image of everyone in the school on a template of Jesus to show that we are all part of God.
Planting a bulb - The children planted bulbs in planters to represent new life, and that each life created is unique. They are all unique and created in God’s image. As the bulb grows so will they and their gifts and talents will blossom.
The day culminated in a whole school gathering in the hall, each carrying a small battery candle. Father Peter brought the monstrance and showed the children how he placed the Blessed Sacrament inside. The children then lit their candles to show how their light shines for Jesus. They then spent some time in silent prayer with the Blessed Sacrament before returning to class.
